The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, has said that conditions are becoming favourable for the cessation of the north-east monsoon in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, south interior Karnataka, Puducherry, Karaikal and Mahe within the next two days.

As per the weekly forecast, Andhra Pradesh is likely to continue to witness dry weather until January 21. Fog and mist may continue to prevail over isolated pockets in the South Coastal A.P. and Rayalseema until January 17, while the same condition may prevail at a few places in North Coastal A.P. until January 19.

According to information available with the Andhra Pradesh State Development Planning Society (APSDPS), except for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema and East Godavari, which recorded rainfall deficit, all other districts have either recorded excess or normal rainfall during south-west and north-east monsoons.

Of five districts that recorded excess rainfall, three are in Rayalaseema, which include Tirupati, Kurnool and Nandyal. The other two are Guntur and Vizianagaram.

Overall, the State has received ‘normal’ rainfall, with an average of 897.4 mm compared to the normal of 867.4 mm during the two monsoons. The monthly outlook for February will be released by the month-end, the officials said.
