iBomma piracy probe widens as police uncover use of forged identity

The investigation into the iBomma piracy network has widened after the cyber crime wing of Hyderabad Police uncovered the use of forged identity documents by the prime accused to operate the platform and evade scrutiny.

Police said Immandi Ravi, the key suspect, ran the piracy website using fake credentials created in the name of a Bengaluru-based professional, V. Prahlad, who has no connection to him.

Officials said they verified the misuse after contacting the individual, who confirmed that his identity details were used without his knowledge.

Investigators are yet to establish the total funds generated through accounts opened using the forged identity.

As part of the ongoing probe, authorities have frozen assets worth about ₹3 crore linked to the accused.

Police are analysing digital trails, server access logs and payment gateway records to identify Ravi’s associates and map the full extent of the piracy network. Further investigation is underway.
