Strongly condemning the act of a lawyer who reportedly tried to throw a shoe and also fling a bunch of papers at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai during court proceedings on Monday, members of Buddha Upasakara Sangha, a consortium of Dalit organizations, staged a protest here on Tuesday, demanding strict action against him.

The protestors, led by sangha members and activists Arjun Bhadre, Arjun Gobbur, A.B. Hosmani, gathered at Jagat Circle and raised slogans against the lawyer Rakesh Kishore.

The agitators, calling the attack an “assault on Constitutional values that bind our democracy”, demanded a thorough investigation.

It is an attempt to lower the dignity of the Supreme Court. It is an open assault on the very foundation of the judiciary and the rule of law. And, it shows how hate and fanaticism have engulfed society, the protestors said.
