Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: Home voting commences on Monday

Home voting for voters above 85 years and those in the persons with disabilities (PwD) category is set to commence on Monday (March 30) in Kerala as part of the 2026 State Assembly elections.

A little over 2.07 lakh voters in both categories have opted for the facility in the State. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved 1,45,592 applications of voters in the 85-plus category, and 62,220 applications of PwD voters filed through Form 12D for availing themselves of the option.

Capital on top

Thiruvananthapuram (14,672), Kannur (14,132) and Ernakulam (14,117) have the highest number of elderly voters who will cast their votes from their homes this time. Thiruvananthapuram (6,791) also tops the list in the case of PwD category voters, followed by Kozhikode (6,788) and Malappuram (6,746).

The ECI has arranged 2,468 teams for the smooth conduct of the home voting option. With 308 teams, Kozhikode has the highest number. Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala) Rathan U. Kelkar said all arrangements prescribed by the ECI have been made for the conduct of this exercise. Mr. Kelkar issued a statement in this regard after holding an online meeting with District Collectors and the political parties.

As per the final electoral roll published on March 23, Kerala has 2,44,927 voters in the PwD category and 5,55,302 voters aged 80 and above.
