Tension gripped Cherukunnu after unidentified assailants hurled bombs at the house of BJP Kalyasseri Constituency General Secretary K. Biju in the early hours of Thursday (October 2, 2025).

According to the police, three crude bombs were thrown at around 2.30 a.m., causing extensive damage to the house. The blast shattered front window panes and damaged furniture, equipment, doors, and walls.

Kannapuram police reached the spot soon after the incident and launched an investigation. Preliminary suspicion is that a group of assailants arrived on a motorbike to carry out the attack. Explosive remnants were recovered from the veranda.

A bomb squad from Kannur inspected the site, and forensic experts are expected to conduct further examination. Police have begun checking CCTV footage from the area to identify the culprits.

The BJP condemned the attack and announced a protest.march. The protest will begin at 9.30 a.m. from Kannapuram railway station and conclude at Cherukunnu Thara.
