Cyberabad police, with large-scale participation from residents and morning-walkers, carried out a special drive to remove dangerous glass-coated kite strings from roads, trees and public spaces to prevent injuries and loss of life.

The clean-up and awareness campaign was conducted in Gachibowli, Ameenpur, Patancheru, Kollur and IDA Bollaram police station limits. In Gachibowli, three police teams along with local volunteers combed through Kondapur and Majid Banda, removing discarded manja from trees, electric poles, buildings and roadside areas while educating people about the risks.

At Ameenpur, around 150 walkers joined police in clearing kite strings from Ilapur ground and Thulasivanam Colony. Officers informed residents that the manufacture, sale and use of the hazardous string is illegal and punishable by law.

Similar awareness and removal drives were held at Maitri Ground, Saki Cheruvu and near the government hospital in Patancheru, as well as along the ORR radial road and Ozone Heights Ground in Kollur. In IDA Bollaram, teams cleared glass-coated strings found hanging and strewn across roads.

Police warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found manufacturing, storing, selling or using the banned manja. Citizens were urged to alert police by dialling 100 or informing the nearest police station if they notice its sale anywhere, and to safely remove and dispose of any dangerous strings found in public places.
