The Bengaluru North City Corporation conducted a cleanliness drive on Sunday, clearing a total of 1,350 tonnes of waste across its jurisdiction.

The drive covered stretches from Nagawara junction to Hebbal junction along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and extended to Allalasandra. The drive, held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., was led by Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar and was reviewed by Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.

During the drive, around 40 illegal shop structures were also dismantled with instructions issued to prevent future encroachments.

Over the past week, over 150 pourakarmikas were deployed daily, supported by 17 tractors, and eight tippers and compactors, leading to the removal of approximately 1,200 tonnes of construction debris and other waste from the city’s main roads.

A cleanliness drive cleared 150 tonnes of waste in one of the wards within Dasarahalli, including 130 tonnes of construction debris, while volunteers from Youth for Parivarthana helped in cleaning black spots and beautifying an 80-metre-long footpath, the Commissioner said.
