Bihar’s Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha are both significantly richer than Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, according to the public declaration of assets by the members of the State Cabinet made on the last day of 2025.

Mr. Kumar has only ₹20,552 cash in hand and ₹57,000 total deposits in the bank, including ₹27,217 in the State Bank of India (SBI) branch at Patna Secretariat, ₹3,358 in the SBI branch at Parliament House, Delhi, and ₹27,191 in the Punjab National Bank branch in Boring Road, Patna.

The CM’s total assets are worth ₹1.66 crore, an increase of ₹68,455 in comparison to last year’s declaration. He has movable assets of ₹17.66 lakh and immovable assets valued at ₹1.48 crore. He does not own any agricultural land or a house in Patna. He has a flat in Delhi’s Dwarka (Sector-5), which was purchased in 2004 for ₹13.78 lakh. Its current market value stands at ₹1.48 crore. He does not have any investment in mutual funds or any insurance policies.

Mr. Kumar has two gold rings and one silver ring studded with pearls, with a total market value of ₹2,03,000. He also owns 10 cows and 13 calves, collectively valued at ₹1.45 lakh. Other significant assets include a treadmill worth ₹35,000, a charkha (spinning wheel) worth ₹10,550, an exercise cycle, and other household appliances such as a microwave oven.

The practice of declaring assets started in January 2011, aiming to increase transparency in public governance and fight corruption. The CM and his Cabinet colleagues uploaded their asset details on the Cabinet Secretariat Department’s website on Wednesday (December 31, 2025) evening.

Wealthy Deputy CMs

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Deputy CM Mr. Choudhary, who also heads the Home Department, has declared that his assets are worth ₹6.38 crore. He holds ₹1.35 lakh in cash and ₹34.88 lakh deposited in banks. His wife’s bank account has a balance of ₹12.82 lakh. He is fond of arms and has an NP Bore Rifle worth ₹4 lakh and a revolver given to him by his father, valued at ₹2 lakh. He also owns a Bolero Neo worth ₹7 lakh.

Mr. Choudhary has purchased bonds worth over ₹30 lakh and LIC insurance policies worth over ₹19 lakh, and own jewellery and bullion worth ₹20 lakh. His wife Kumari Mamta has 200 grams of gold with a market value of ₹20 lakh.

Fellow Deputy CM Mr. Sinha has total assets worth ₹8.81 crore, six times greater than the Bihar CM. This includes movable property worth ₹5.13 crore and immovable property worth ₹3.68 crore. Mr. Sinha has 90 grams of gold which he received as a gift during family marriage worth ₹10 lakh. He also owns a rifle and revolver and ₹88,560 in cash. His wife Sushila Devi owns a company called Shiva Enterprises valued at ₹2.40 crore. She also owns immovable property worth ₹3.02 crore and has ₹67,528 in cash.

The only three Ministers in the Bihar Cabinet whose declared wealth is less than the CM are Sanjay Kumar, Sanjay Singh Tiger, and Surendra Mehta.
