A committee has been constituted to conduct a study, as per the guidelines laid down by National Health Mission, and recommend places for setting up of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) in the State, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao has said.
Replying to member Chandru Lamani in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Mr. Gundu Rao said that a committee, led by former official of Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry Himanshu Bhushan, had already conducted a scientific study as per IPHS (Indian Public Health Standards) and NHM guidelines and given recommendations on setting up PHCs and CHCs for the Kalyana Karnataka region.
“Now the committee has been asked to study and recommend setting up of PHCs and CHCs across Karnataka,” he said.
The Minister pointed out because of urbanisation, population in urban areas was growing while that of rural areas was declining.
To be filled up
Earlier replying to the question by Kushtagi MLA Doddanagouda Patil, Mr. Gundu Rao said that the vacant posts in the PHCs, CHCs and taluk hosptials, including those of specialist doctors, medical officers, nurses and pharmacists, would be filled up in a month’s time.
Already permission had been given to fill up posts of 337 specialist doctors, 250 medical officers on contract basis. This apart, steps had been taken up to fill up 1,500 posts of doctors under compulsory government service for students who complete medical education under government quota. Additionally, the Finance Department had consented for recruitment of 120 specialist doctors and 100 medical officers and the process too was under way, he said.
