Bengali film actor and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Parno Mittra joined the Trinamool Congress on Friday (December 26, 2025), ahead of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for 2026.
Ms. Mittra, who had joined the BJP in 2019, had contested the 2021 Assembly elections from the Baranagar constituency. She lost the seat to then Trinamool candidate Tapas Roy, who later switched to the BJP in 2024.
“I joined the BJP six years ago. People often make mistakes, but I feel the time has come to rectify mistakes. That is why I am joining Trinamool today,” she said.
Ms. Mittra added that her political journey with the BJP did not progress in the manner she had envisaged.
