The Telangana Congress claimed ‘victory’ of its stand in the High Court over the 42% BC reservations in local bodies as the High Court refused to give a stay on the notification to be issued on Thursday (October 9).

Congress leaders, including TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vakiti Srihari, and Govt Whip Adi Srinivas expressed confidence that the State government will secure a favourable verdict in the ongoing case as the arguments will continue in the High Court on Thursday.

At the same time, the Ministers appealed to the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders to implead in the case and strengthen the government’s arguments.

Speaking to reporters after discussions with party leaders, Mr. Mahesh Goud said the Congress government presented strong arguments before the High Court and the BC reservation case will be won decisively.

Accusing the BJP of trying to ‘snatch away what rightly belongs to the BCs’, the TPCC president and the Ministers said the Congress government had brought three legislations in favour of BCs, which received unanimous support from all parties in the State Assembly. Led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the government was committed to BC welfare.

Mr. Ponnam Prabhakar reminded that Telangana was the first State in the country to go to elections implementing 42% BC reservations. Even BJP MLA Payal Shankar and BRS leader T. Srinivas Yadav supported the move during the Assembly discussions, he said and urged them not to reduce the social justice effort to ‘mere political drama’.

He further urged the BJP, BRS and AIMIM parties to ‘implead’ in the case since they had supported the resolution unanimously in the Assembly.

Minister Vakati Srihari said Congress never goes back on its promises, be it concerning Telangana State or BC reservations. Responding to queries, they said that Congress MPs and MLAs from all communities had joined hands in Delhi to fight for the implementation of 42% BC reservations.
