The Hebbagodi Police have arrested two alleged Bangladeshi nationals who were reportedly residing illegally in the city.

The arrested persons have been identified as Jahidul Islam, 35, and Firdous, 32. According to the police, the duo had been living illegally at Podu Village near Hulimangala in Electronics City for the past two years.

Investigations revealed that the accused had entered India illegally and later procured fake documents, including passports, Aadhaar cards, and other identity papers, in an attempt to conceal their nationality. They were working at a scrap shed near Hulimangala and were involved in collecting scrap materials and plastic bottles after dark, the police claimed.

When questioned by the police, the accused falsely claimed that they were natives of Kolkata. Acting on specific and credible information, the Hebbagodi police conducted a raid and detained the duo. The police suspect that several illegal Bangladeshi migrants may be residing in the surrounding areas. Further investigation is under way, and authorities are verifying the documents to identify others who may be involved.

The police have continued their probe to trace the network through which the accused were able to procure fraudulent Indian documents.

Investigation also revealed that some local landlords allegedly rented their premises to illegal immigrants. The police have summoned these landlords for further inquiry, and action would be initiated if any irregularities were found, a senior police officer said.
