Andhra Pradesh Minister of Excise and Mines Kollu Ravindra has asserted that the State government is taking stringent measures to curb the production and supply of spurious liquor.
Addressing the media at the Secretariat on Thursday, Mr. Ravindra said the Enforcement Wing of the Excise Department was effectively controlling the menace. “Under the Navodayam programme, 21 districts have already been declared liquor-free,” the Minister said.
“The government is considering the spurious liquor case at Mulakalacheruvu in Annamayya district very seriously. Strict action will be taken against those involved, irrespective of their position,” the Minister asserted.
Mr. Ravindra said the enforcement team had seized 30 cans of spurious liquor, fake labels, cartons, and sealing equipment. “Action has been initiated against several persons linked to the case, including bar owners and Excise staff, with one sub-inspector being suspended for negligence,” the Minister said.
‘False propaganda’
He criticised the YSRCP for “spreading false propaganda” on fake liquor incidents to create panic among the public. “Those publishing or circulating fake news in the print, electronic, or social media will face legal action under BNS Sections 353 and 356,” the Minister warned, adding that “all spurious liquor cases during 2019–2024 will be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible prosecuted as per law.”
