Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionaries on Thursday (November 20, 2025) submitted a petition at the office of the Salem City Police Commissioner, seeking permission to conduct a public meeting in the district on December 4, to be addressed by party president Vijay.

The actor-politician’s State-wide weekend-only roadshows were halted after 41 people were killed in a stampede at his rally in Karur on September 27, 2025.

In the petition, TVK Salem central district secretary Tamilan A. Parthiban sought permission to conduct the meeting at any one of the three locations: Seelanaickenpatti, Bose Maidan, or Fort Maidan.

However, the police denied permission for December 4 as it is the eve of the Karthigai Deepam festival. Besides, the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary would fall on December 6, when security would be heightened. Therefore, the police asked the TVK functionaries to suggest other dates after December 6.

A police officer said, “We explained the difficulties on December 4 and December 6. The TVK functionaries said they will consult with their party high command and choose another day for conducting the public meeting.”

Party sources said Mr. Vijay was expected to resume his rallies from next month.
