The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation will soon start taking action to restore the mandatory parking space in commercial buildings and complexes and Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Jyoti Patil issued a ruling in this regard during the monthly council meeting in Dharwad on Friday.

Issuing the ruling, Ms. Patil said that it was a matter of serious nature which should be addressed immediately considering the future growth of the twin cities.

The Mayor said that the municipal corporation authorities would subject to scrutiny the completion certificates (CC) issued to commercial complexes and apartment buildings over the past five years and if the requisite parking space was found to be encroached upon, then steps would be taken to clear the same.

Initiating the discussion on indiscriminate roadside parking due to lack of parking spaces in commercial buildings, floor leader Iresh Anchatageri alleged that as officials had issued the CC and occupancy certificates without proper inspection of parking facilities, residents were being forced to park vehicles on roads, pavements, which consequently had resulted in traffic jams.

Concurring with him, Councillor Vijayanand Shetty alleged that several multi-storey paying guest accommodations in Dharwad lacked parking facilities. In some areas, roads had been encroached upon and many localities did not have the required nine-metre-wide roads, he alleged.

BJP councillors Shivu Menasinkai, Satish Hangal, Tippanna Majjagi and Shivu Hiremath emphasised the need for ensuring mandatory parking spaces, while Congress councillor Rajashekar Kamati suggested imposing heavy penalties on violators. The discussion concluded with Mayor ruling that unauthorised structures in parking spaces would be demolished based on inspection reports.

On Congress councillor Kavita Kabber’s demand for giving a facelift to corporation hospital in Dharwad, Ms. Patil said that house committee would be formed to assess the facilities required at the hospital and submit a report for further action.

CCTV cameras at slaughterhouse

The council meeting also resolved to install CCTV cameras and tighten security around slaughterhouses in the twin cities to prevent any cow slaughter.

After councillor Shankar Shelke raised the issue of recent instance clash over cows being brought to the slaugherhouse and demanded strict action against violation, Ms. Patil said that as a precautionary measure, HDMC would install 10 high-definition CCTV cameras around the abattoir premises and deploy five security personnel round the clock.
