The Andhra Pradesh Tourism department and the Department of Ports allowed 34 boats to operate in river Godavari between Rajamahendravaram and Papikonda Hill Range in Andhra Pradesh to ferry tourists during the upcoming season. Two of them are operated by the AP Tourism Development Corporation.
The scrutiny by the Department of Ports and Irrigation authorities is mandatory for the boat operators to adopt the Standard Operating Procedure to avoid any untoward incidents. The Irrigation department provides inputs on the navigational route for the boat operators on regular basis.
Tourism Department Godavari Regional Director Ch. Pavan Kumar told The Hindu: “As many as 34 boats have been permitted to operate in the river Godavari between Rajamahendravaram and Papikonda Hill Range, 15 boats will operate from the point of Gandipochamma temple while 17 will operate from the Pochavaram point.” The boat operators have been permitted to operate from October 11, with a condition to suspend the operations at any time based on the weather alerts.
