The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Wednesday (October 1, 2025) announced their decision to postpone the October 3, 2025 “Bharat Bandh”, a nation-wide protest against the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025.

The move comes after an emergency meeting of the Board’s office-bearers was convened by AIMPLB president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani.

The AIMPLB said the bandh has been deferred as religious festivals of other communities are set to take place in several States on the same date. The Board clarified that while the bandh has been postponed, its protest movement against the Waqf Amendment Act would not cease.

Other planned programmes will be held as scheduled. The new dates for the “Bharat Bandh” will be announced soon, the AIMPLB added.

In the recent past, the Save Waqf, Save Constitution, a committee that functions under the supervision of the Board, told The Hindu, of their intention of embarking on what they described as a “second phase” of a wave of protests against the new waqf legislation. Mufti Omar Abedeen, co-convener of the committee, pointed out that while on the one hand, they welcomed certain aspects of the Supreme Court’s interim order, on the other, there was disappointment with others.
