The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday (October 30, 2025) said India has received a waiver for U.S. sanctions on Iran’s Chabahar port for a period of six months.

While addressing a weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also said that India’s talks with the U.S. for a trade deal are continuing.

In September, the Trump administration revoked its waiver of sanctions over the Chabahar port as part of its moves to impose “maximum pressure on Iran”.

The latest decision by the U.S. Government has given some respite to India, which signed a 10-year lease agreement with Iran in May 2024.

India plans to develop the Shahid Beheshti terminal at the Chabahar port as an alternative trading route for India, circumventing Pakistan, to send cargo to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
