The electoral alliances of the DMK and the BJP are in a shambles, as infighting among the constituents is so intense that they would not even vote for their alliance party candidates in the upcoming Assembly election, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam founder and actor Vijay alleged on Wednesday (April 8, 2026). He went on to claim that a section of the Congress party had been “purchased” by the DMK, while the “real Congress” was with the TVK, which was striving hard to save the secular fabric.

Addressing an election rally in Palayamkottai, Mr. Vijay said the electoral alliances separately stitched together by the DMK [the Secular Progressive Alliance] and the BJP [the National Democratic Alliance led by the AIADMK] were in disarray owing to intense infighting among their constituents, which would result in losses for them in the upcoming election.
