Following the explosion in a firecracker manufacturing unit at Vetlapalem in Samarlakota of Kakinada district, Anakapalli district police have conducted preventive inspections at firecracker manufacturing and storage units across the district on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police, Tuhin Sinha, reviewed the situation and issued instructions to carry out inspections in all sub-divisions of the district. Under the supervision of the DSPs of Anakapalli, Narsipatnam, and Parawada, the Station House Officers of all police stations, in coordination with the Fire and Revenue departments, conducted raids at both licensed and also suspected unauthorised units.

Mr. Tuhin Sinha said that during the inspections, several key aspects were examined. The police have checked whether the units have valid licences for manufacturing and storage. They also checked whether the explosive materials were stored beyond the permitted limits in the sheds; whether proper fire safety measures are being followed; trained personnel employed; and availability of emergency exits, along with other important checks.

The SP said that the inspections were conducted as a preventive measure to avoid any untoward incidents. He also urged the public to inform the police if they notice illegal storage or manufacturing of explosive materials in their vicinity.

“Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found manufacturing or storing firecrackers illegally in the district,” he said.
