Light rains forecast for Chennai and surroundings on October 6

After a hot day when temperatures soared up to 36.1 degree Celsius at Meenambakkam and 35.6 degree Celsius at Nungambakkam, several places in and around Chennai including Nungambakkam, Tambaram, Meenambakkam, and Ennore recorded rains on Sunday.

According to data from the Regional Meteorological Centre here, till 5.30 p.m., observatories at Meenambakkam recorded 22.8 mm, Nungambakkam 13.7 mm, and Tiruttani 7 mm. Till 7.30 p.m. on Sunday, the weather station at Ranipet recorded 35 mm, Meenambakam ISRO 18 mm, VIT Chennai 5.5 mm, Ennore port 2 mm, Jaya Engineering College in Tiruvallur 1 mm, Chembarambakkam 18 mm, YMCA Nandanam 15 mm, Poonamallee 9 mm, NIOT in Pallikaranai 7.9 mm, Anna University 7.5 mm, and West Tambaram 4.5 mm.  

For Monday, the Met office had forecast maximum temperatures around 33-34 degree Celsius with partly cloudy skies. One or two spells of light/moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur in some areas.
