Five women police officers of NTR Police Commissionerate will organise a 35-day cycle rally to raise public awareness against drugs and ganja. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav will flag off the awareness rally titled ‘Drugs Pai Dandayatra’ from Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium on January 27 (Tuesday).

Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta, public representatives and other officials will grace the inaugural function, said Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu.

The 510-km rally will pass through Ibrahimpatnam, G. Konduru, Kanchikacherla, Chandarlapadu, Nandigama, Penuganchiprolu, Jaggaiahpeta, Vatsavai, A. Konduru, Reddygudem, Mylavaram, Veerlapadu, Tiruvuru, Vissannapeta, Vijayawada Rural and Urban mandals.

Woman Probation Sub-Inspector Kadali Revathi, head constable Gummadi Hymavathi, women constables Shaik Bibi Sailaja, Chepu Triveni and Vaiboina Usha Rani will participate in the cycle rally, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) K.G.V. Saritha.

“The five women police officers will interact with the villagers, conduct public meetings, awareness programmes, explain the consequences of drug peddling or consumption and administer pledge to the locals,” Mr. Rajasekhara Babu said.

“Public representatives, officials of various government departments, Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), students and the local police will join the cycle rally,” Ms. Savitha told The Hindu on Sunday.

The aim of the cycle rally is to create a drug-free society, conduct awareness among the public on the ill-effects of drugs and put and an end to drugs and ganja peddling, the Police Commissioner said.
