Members of the Indian blind women’s cricket team, which recently won the World Cup, met Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan at his camp office at Mangalagiri, near here, on Friday. Apart from the players, coaches and support staff were present.

Mr. Pawan Kalyan congratulated the players and presented each cricketer a cheque for ₹5 lakh, while the coaches received ₹2 lakh each.

The women cricketers were also honoured with the traditional sari, a shawl, a souvenir, Kondapalli toys, and Araku Coffee in appreciation of their success.

Lauding the team’s victory, he said it was a moment of immense pride for the nation. He emphasised the need to provide dedicated practise facilities, and assured his support for the development of infrastructure, promising to appeal to the Chief Ministers in the country to extend similar assistance to the players.

Mr. Pawan Kalyan also noted that the coalition government in the State was actively promoting sports, and he promised to bring the issues highlighted by the cricketers to the attention of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Team captain Deepika and cricketer Pangi Karuna Kumari, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, received special mention.

When Ms. Deepika sought road connectivity to her hamlet, Tambalhatti Tanda of Hemavath Panchayat in Sri Sathya Sai district, Mr. Pawan Kalyan instructed the officials to take immediate action. He also directed the officials to address the issues raised by Karuna Kumari from Alluri Sitharama Raju district.
