The Cyberabad police on Saturday (December 6, 2025) marked the 63rd Home Guards Raising Day with a ceremonial parade at the commissionerate office.

Home Guards Raising Day, observed nationwide on December 6, commemorates the establishment of the organisation in 1946. Since its inception, the force has supported policing, the armed forces and disaster-response operations, acting as a crucial auxiliary arm of public safety.

Addressing the gathering, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty highlighted the creation of the Cyberabad Home Guards Co-operative Credit Society in January 2025, the first such initiative in Telangana, aimed at strengthening financial security and welfare support for Home Guards. He said that salary-account holders with HDFC and Axis Bank now receive health insurance cover of ₹33 lakh, outpatient consultations and periodic full-body check-ups.

He added that the Cyberabad Welfare Committee has been set up to ensure timely assistance for Home Guards, police personnel and their families during major medical emergencies. Home Guards injured in the line of duty, he said, are being provided full medical reimbursement without any financial ceiling, reflecting the commissionerate’s focus on dignity and wellbeing of its personnel.

CAR Headquarters DCP Sanjeev noted that the Home Guards system has seen significant expansion over the decades, with the Telangana government rolling out several welfare measures. These include an increase in parade allowance from ₹100 to ₹200, a ₹5 lakh ex gratia for natural and accidental deaths, and improved winter and rain gear on par with police personnel.

In Cyberabad, six Home Guards have received accidental death insurance payments of ₹43 lakh each through HDFC salary accounts, while the family of Home Guard Ananthaiah, who died on duty in Madhya Pradesh, has been sanctioned ₹15 lakh in election ex gratia.

Of the 1,053 Home Guards in the Commissionerate, 912 have enrolled in the Credit Society, which has so far sanctioned ₹92 lakh in loans to 46 beneficiaries, in addition to retirement and funeral benefits.

The Cyberabad Welfare Fund has also disbursed ₹38.19 lakh for critical medical treatments, including cardiac, cancer, kidney, neurological and transplant-related care.

The event was attended by senior officers including Madhapur DCP Ritiraj, Balanagar DCP K. Suresh Kumar, Rajendranagar DCP Yogesh Goutam, Shamshabad DCP B. Rajesh, DCP Special Branch Y. V. S. Sudheendra, DCP Crimes Muthyam Reddy, W&CSW DCP Srujana Karnam, Madhapur SOT DCP Shoban Kumar, Madhapur Traffic DCP Sai Manohar, Medchal Traffic DCP Ranjan Ratan Kumar, ADCP S. K. Shameer, ACP Arun and others.
