The Kalasha Jyoti procession of Goddess Kanaka Durga was taken out with grandeur atop Indrakeeladri on Thursday evening, marking the 44th annual celebration of the Bhavani Deeksha tradition.

Devotees participated in large numbers, carrying illuminated kalashas and chanting ‘Jai Jai Durga’, transforming the city streets into a spiritual spectacle.

The Bhavani Deeksha, inspired by the verses of Lalita Sahasranama that glorify the Goddess as Bhavānī, Bhadrāpriya, Bhaktasaubhāgya Dāyinī, has been observed since 1981, following the guidance of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peethadhipatis.

It was in the same year that the Kalasha Jyoti procession was first introduced, and the Thursday’s event marked the completion of 44 years, temple scholars said.

The procession commenced at 6 p.m. from Satyaranayanapuram Ramakoti premises, where temple priests performed rituals before installing the sacred fire on a beautifully decorated chariot, symbolising the divine couple.

Thousands of Bhavani devotees from various regions offered Kalasha Jyotis at the temple and availed free darshan and prasadam.
