A minor explosion occurred at the toilet complex of the Attukal Bhagavathy temple on Wednesday. Two persons sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The incident took place during gas-welding work being carried out inside the facility.
The toilet block, which contains nearly 25 units, was undergoing repair work when the accident occurred. The two welders injured in the blast were rushed to a hospital nearby.
According to official sources, the structure collapsed partially in the impact of the explosion. Preliminary assessment indicated that sparks from the welding process may have fallen into the septic tank area and possibly ignited accumulated gases to trigger the blast.
