The Kakinada District Development Review Committee (DDRC) on Tuesday decided to speed up construction of a temporary protection wall along the Uppada coastal belt to prevent coastal erosion. The committee also approved irrigation facilities to save 2 TMC of water currently being released into the sea from the Yeleru reservoir, and the construction of 11 ghats along the river Godavari in Kakinada district.
The DDRC, headed by Kakinada District In-charge Minister and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana, reviewed the proposed projects in the district on Tuesday.
District Collector S. Shan Mohan informed that the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board has proposed to construct a temporary protection wall along the Uppada coastal belt at an estimated cost of ₹16 crore. He further said: “₹18 crore has been allocated for works of the Yeleru reservoir system and ₹55 lakhs for developing 11 ghats along the river Godavari for the Godavari pushkarams-2027”.
Mr. Narayana lauded the efforts of the district authorities for completing the digitisation of records of the 72 Primary Agriculture Credit Societies in the district. He directed the district officials to procure paddy more than the actual target in the Kharif 2025-26.
Kakinada MP T. Uday Srinivas, Kakinada City MLA Vanamadi Venkaeswara Rao, MLC Karri Padmasri, District Cooperative Credit Bank chairman Tummala Babu and other officials were present.
