Journalists from The Hindu bagged honours at the Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2025 on Wednesday (November 19, 2025).

Population First, a non-governmental organisation, presented the 15th edition of the Laadli awards, honouring 63 print, web, and TV journalists.

The Hindu won accolades for two reports. Shiv Sahay Singh, Shrabana Chatterjee, and Moyurie Som from the Kolkata bureau won an award in the English language print series category for the report “Doctor rape and murder: Violence and vigil in Kolkata”.

Their reportage connected the horrific crime at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital to a deeper structural rot in healthcare and governance, and for shifting the focus from sensationalism to accountability.

A Delhi report of Ashna Bhutani and another journalist, “Homes for transgender people: A safe space, threatened”, bagged an award under the print category.

The feature highlighted the challenges faced by the Central government-established Garima Grehs that are struggling to keep their doors open for transgender persons.

Population First, which is supported by the United Nations Population Fund, has been recognising journalists and creators in news media and advertising for their work on gender sensitivity since the year 2007.

Journalists from several other organisations, including Scroll, The News Minute, Newslaundry, The Quint, ThePrint, BehanBox, IndiaSpend, and People’s Archive of Rural India, took home honours.
