On his first day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday (May 10, 2026) signed three files one of which was to grant 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers who consume upto 500 units of electricity bimonthly.

Mr. Vijay signed the files soon after the swearing-in ceremony, in the presence of his fans and supporters gathered in Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Chennai.

The second file he signed was to set up an elite ‘Singa Pen Special Force’ for the safety of women. The State-wide force would ensure that complaints with regard to women safety were addressed at once. The third file he signed was to set up an Anti-Narcotic Task Force to crack down on offences involving illegal drugs and psychotropic substances. The force would have 65 police stations, spread over 37 districts and in nine cities.

Later in the day, Mr. Vijay arrived in the Secretariat and went to his office and signed a few files. A photograph released by the DIPR showed a photograph of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai hanging in the background. New Ministers and senior IAS officials called on him and presented flowers.

A few hours since his assuming office, the State government posted senior IAS officer P. Senthil Kumar as Secretary-I to the Chief Minister. G. Laxmi Priya, IAS was posted as Secretary-II to the Chief Minister. The social media handle @CMOTamilNadu was taken over by the new government that posted updates from his office.
