The shop that caught fire in Vellore.

A second-hand spare parts shop on Old Bangalore Road, that comes within Vellore Corporation limits, was gutted on Sunday after a fire broke out in the unused materials dumped in front of the outlet.

Police said that it was around 10 a.m. when a few residents noticed a thick smoke coming from the shop. Immediately, along with other residents, they tried to douse the fire but the blaze spread to the entire outlet. Based on an alert, a six-member firefighters’ team from Vellore rushed to the spot and doused it after nearly an hour of hard labour. An estimate of materials destroyed in the accident is being carried out.

Vellore North police inspected the spot and said that the actual cause of the accident is being ascertained. Further probe is under way.
