Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy on December 11 said that the Pulse Polio vaccination drive will be held across the district on December 21. He urged parents to ensure that every child below five years gets vaccinated without fail.

Chairing a preparatory meeting on the Pulse Polio immunisation campaign, he said vaccination booths will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 21. From December 22 to 24, health teams will visit households to administer the vaccine. A special campaign will also be conducted from December 21 to 24 at transit points and high-risk areas, he added.

Dr. Sudhir Naik from the Health Department said no polio cases have been detected in the country in the last 14 years. Karnataka reported its last polio case in 2007, and no cases have been recorded since then.

Steps are being taken to identify and vaccinate children from migrant families — both incoming and outgoing. The district has 2,22,084 children below five years, all of whom are being targeted for vaccination. A total of 1,648 booths will be set up, and 50 mobile teams will be deployed, he informed.

Zilla Panchayat CEO S. Yukesh Kumar, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Kumar Swamy, District Surveillance Officer Nagaraju, Reproductive and Child Health Officer Mohammed Siraj, and other officials from the Health and Family Welfare Department and various departments were present.
