A massive flood and landslide disaster on the Nepal-Tibet border killed several people and left several hundred missing, many of them foreign tourists.

The Karnataka government on Thursday (August 27, 2026) said 13 people from the State were missing in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) following flash floods. They are travelling in groups comprising people from other states. Of the 13, 11 are from Bengaluru Urban district, one is from Mysuru district and one is from Dharwad district.
Most of the missing people are in Timure in Rasuwa district of Nepal, while a few are in Darchen in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), according to a release.

“We have no information about any deaths. A helpline has already been opened. People can contact 1070 or 080-22253707, and necessary action will be taken. If any of your family members or acquaintances are unreachable, please inform us immediately,” Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara said at a press conference in Bengaluru on Thursday.
He said senior officials would be sent to Kathmandu and that further action would be taken based on the information received.
“We have shared all the information officially available so far. The Resident Commissioner in Delhi has also been contacted and instructed to take immediate action,” he said.
Home Minister Priyank Kharge has separately urged Indian citizens affected by the floods to make immediate use of the emergency helplines established for assistance and information.
Mr. Kharge appealed to Indians in Nepal, as well as their relatives in India, to contact the helplines without delay if they need assistance, information or help in establishing communication with family members.
The emergency helpline numbers are +977 985 131 6807, +977 970 910 7500 and +977 981 032 6117. All three numbers are also accessible through WhatsApp, according to a release by Home Minister.
The Karnataka government, meanwhile, has stepped up efforts to identify residents of the State who may have been missing in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) amid flash floods and disruptions reported along the Nepal-Tibet border and surrounding areas.
The Revenue Department, through the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), has appealed to stranded individuals, their family members and tour operators to provide details through a Google Form at the earliest. The information will help the State government coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Embassy of India in Nepal and the Embassy of India in Beijing for rescue, evacuation and other necessary assistance, according to a release by the revenue department.
In a release by the Karnataka government, it is stated, “The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) is operational round-the-clock to monitor the situation and coordinate assistance. The Resident Commissioner, Karnataka Bhavan, New Delhi, has also constituted dedicated teams to monitor developments and coordinate with the concerned authorities. The helpline numbers of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and the Embassy of India in Beijing have also been shared for assistance.”
