A 37-year-old man, Sijo, of Nellamkozhi, Edakkome, was found dead at Vellora early on Saturday morning (November 15).
According to the police, the incident occurred around 5.40 a.m. when the deceased and his companion were hunting wild boars. The incident happened near Vellora UP school, where Sijo was found dead in a pit near the companion’s ancestral house after being ‘accidentally shot’ with a gun.
Shine, 41, a native of Vellore who was with Sijo at the time, has been taken into custody by the Peringome police for questioning. The police conducted an inquest at the spot and later shifted the body to Kannur Medical College Hospital
The police said that they were in possession of an unlicensed country-made gun, and accordingly, a case under the Arms Act and BNS 194 has been registered in the case.
An investigation is under way into the incident.
