All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) has taken exception to the government decision on extending holidays for schools and colleges to facilitate the ongoing social and educational survey taken up by the Permanent Backward Classes Commission.
In a press release issued here, district secretary of AIDSO Shashikala Meti has taken strong exception to the government’s decision on extending holidays for government and aided schools and colleges.
“The step taken is undemocratic and it will become a hurdle in ensuring quality education in government and aided schools. The government’s decision has caused a fear of creating disparity among students of government and aided schools and that of private schools,” she said.
Already, teachers of government and aided schools are bearing the burden of handling non-curricular activities and the ongoing survey has further increased their burden, she said.
Extension of holidays will mean teachers will have to complete teaching the curriculum within the available period leading to further pressure on them. The decision will also disturb the academic discipline of students of government and aided schools, she said.
It is also a matter of concern that without discussion, holidays have been extended leading to the fear of affecting the passing percentage of government schools, the release said.
The ideal decision will be to withdraw the decision on extension of holidays and AIDSO will urge the State government to make alternative arrangements for completing the survey, the release added.
