By paying ₹3.12 crore tax in a single day, residents in the rural areas across Yadgir district have shown tremendous response to an appeal made by the Zilla Panchayat on tax dues.

During a drive on January 19, the officials of the Zilla Panchayat appealed to the people in the rural areas under different gram panchayats to pay tax that have been due for a long period.

Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia led the team of officers comprising Taluk Panchayat Executive Officers, Panchayat Development Officers, Grade I and II Secretaries, tax collectors, second division clerks, librarians and self-help women’s groups working under the National Rural Livelihood Mission and visited people for tax collection.

“We had a bit of doubt whether people will respond to our appeal, as they have already suffered crop losses. But the way they welcomed our team inspired us to move forward,” Mr. Ordia said, recalling his impression of the first day of the drive.

The district has suffered a huge quantum of crop loss. Despite such a difficult financial condition, the residents of rural areas paid ₹3.12 crore in a single day setting an example that they will pay taxes in return for getting government services.

With this considerable tax collection, Yadgir district now stands 13th in the State.

In the previous drive on November 27, 2025, they recovered a record ₹2,68,82,350 in a single day.

During these two drives, traders and other businessmen have also contributed significantly by paying their taxes.

Promising development works, Mr. Ordia said that a special action plan will be prepared and sent for approval.

As further process, the gram panchayats will use these taxes collected for development works, he said and added that there will be no misappropriations.

He expressed the confidence of the district becoming the topper by collecting highest taxes in the coming days.
