A woman was booked for allegedly attempting to smuggle prohibited items into Parappana Agrahara Central Prison and was caught during a routine security check on Monday.

According to a complaint submitted by prison authorities, a woman staff member of the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF), had been assigned to conduct the routine frisking and physical verification of female visitors at around 1 p.m. on March 9.

During the inspection, a woman identified as Anusha arrived to meet an undertrial prisoner, UTP No. 5273/2025, Bharat Akiraa. While checking her belongings, the security staff noticed that Anusha had allegedly concealed certain prohibited items inside her inner garments in violation of prison rules.

The items were seized, along with the visitor pass slip, and a report was submitted to senior prison officials. The materials were later verified in the presence of Assistant Superintendent B.R. Andani.

Authorities stated that the woman had attempted to smuggle the banned items, suspected to be ganja, into the prison premises by misleading the security staff. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against Anusha and the undertrial prisoner under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022 and other relevant provisions.

Prison staff member held

In another incident, a prison staff member was allegedly held while attempting to carry banned items and cash inside the central prison during a routine security check on March 9. According to prison authorities, the incident occurred around 6.15 p.m. when the staff member, identified as Prakash Gowda, arrived for duty in the ‘C’ barrack area.

During a physical check conducted by security personnel, officials recovered ₹1,610 in cash and two suspicious packets wrapped in black tape from his possession.

The matter has been reported to senior officers, and further legal action is being initiated for violations of prison regulations and for attempting to smuggle prohibited items into the prison.
