Waterlogging in hospital

Water stagnation was reported in the emergency ward of Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital. Sources from the hospital said that sanitation workers were engaged in clearing rainwater from the ward. “The delay in the desilting work, which was to be carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD) in the drainage connections of the emergency ward, led to the stagnation,” the sources added.

Meanwhile, regular waterlogging on the road from the arch gate to the hospital has been completely resolved, with sources attributing the improvement to upgraded infrastructure along the main thoroughfare maintained by the corporation.

Heavy rains recorded

In the past 24 hours ending at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, Tiruchendur and Kayalpattinam recorded very heavy rainfall of 146 mm and 154 mm respectively, while Sathankulam recorded 84 mm.

Other areas in the district recorded moderate rainfall (in mm) as follows: Thoothukudi 42.80, Srivaikuntam 56.20, Kulasekarapattinam 55, Kovilpatti 31, Kalugumalai 32, Ettayapuram 16.80, Vaippar 32, Ottapidaram 54, Vedanatham 45 and Maniyachi 30.
