Weather updates: Red alert for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand districts today; yellow alert in Delhi | LIVE

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert and forecast light to moderate rain in parts of Delhi on Saturday (September 26, 2026) as the city woke up to cloudy skies.

Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness intense rainfall activity over the next two days, issuing a ‘red alert’ for several districts, while warning of heavy to very heavy rain at several places, and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Extremely heavy rainfall is also possible at isolated places, the weather office said.

In neighbouring Uttarakhand, the IMD has issued a red alert for heavy rain has been issued in Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar on Saturday (September 26, 2026) and an orange alert for Dehradun, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Almora while a ‘yellow’ alert is in place for Haridwar, Uttarkashi, and Tehri. On Sunday (September 27, 2026), a red alert has been issued for Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Haridwar; an orange alert for Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Nainital, and Rudraprayag; and a yellow alert for Bageshwar, Almora, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, and Pithoragarh.

Meanwhile, a deep depression lashed Odisha with heavy rain on Friday (September 25, 2026), with at least 63 places recording over 100 mm of rainfall and three over 300 mm, forcing authorities to close schools in some districts as rivers swelled, landslips occurred, big trees got uprooted, more areas waterlogged and houses damaged. Around 14,500 people living in low-lying and landslide-prone areas in the southern and western regions of the coastal state have been shifted to 2,061 relief centres where cooked food is being served, while pregnant women were shifted to hospitals, according to the State government.

In Chhattisgarh schools have been closed on Saturday (September 26, 2026) as heavy rains battered parts of the State, inundating several areas and cutting off villages.

The rains severely affected electricity infrastructure in North Andhra, covering Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and parts of East Godavari districts, with power supply swiftly restored, a senior Energy Department official had said.

An official said continuous torrential rain damaged 139 sub-stations, 121 33-kV feeders, 654 11-kV feeders, 803 33/11-kV poles, 758 LT poles and 306 distribution transformers across 36 mandals and 2,244 villages in North Andhra.
