Water supply to several areas in the capital city is likely to be disrupted over the weekend due to urgent maintenance works at the water treatment plants (WTP) of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) at Aruvikkara.

Although the WTPs have resumed operation, full restoration of supply is expected to take time as the water levels in the KWA tanks had dropped. Supply is expected to be restored in the low-lying regions by 6 a.m. on Saturday. In the high-line areas, it is expected to be restored by 10 p.m. on Sunday, the KWA said in a statement.

The maintenance works were carried out on the 74 MLD, 86 MLD, 75 MLD and 72 MLD WTPs at Aruvikkara, according to the KWA. The repairs were necessitated due to issues including power failure and a damaged valve, a KWA official said.

Supply has been hit in the Corporation wards of Kanjirampara, Pangode, Vattiyoorkavu, Vazhottukonam, Nettayam, Kachani, Thurthummoola, Kodunganoor, Thirumala, Valiyavila, Thrikkanapuram, Punnakkamugal, Poojappura, Mudavanmugal, Karamana, Nedumkad, Kalady, Arannur and Pappanamcode, KWA said.

Supply will be partially hit in the Statue, MG Road, Pulimoodu, Thampuranmukku, Rishimangalam, Vanchiyoor, Althara, Kochar Road, Edappazhinji, Sasthamangalam, Vellayambalam, Peroorkada, Kudappanakunnu, Ambalamukku, Muttada, Paruthippara, Kesavadasapuram, Pattom, Ulloor, Kochulloor, Kowdiar, Kuravankonam, Pippinmoodu, Oolanpara, Marappalam, Pettah, MG Road, Valiyasala, Vazhuthacaud and places near the General Hospital.
