A teenager died of electrocution while attempting to shoot social media reels atop a train engine at Meelavittan railway station on Sunday (November 2, 2025). Two others who accompanied him sustained serious injuries in the accident.

The deceased has been identified as N. Arun, 18, of Anna Nagar. He was accompanied by S. Kavin, 15, and Harish, 17, from Rajagopal Nagar. On Sunday evening, the trio went to the Meelavittan railway station and climbed on top of the train engine to record the video.

During this attempt, they came into contact with the high-voltage overhead electric wire. Arun died on the spot, while Kavin and Harish sustained burn injuries. They were rushed to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital, where they are undergoing intensive care.

The railway police conducted inquiries. Further investigations are on.
