With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections fast approaching and political parties vying to push their narrative, actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has instructed its functionaries not to speak to the media without prior approval from the party headquarters.

In a statement issued on Thursday (February 26, 2026), party general secretary N. Anand said TVK’s State-level, district-level, and other functionaries should not participate in media debates without prior approval from the party headquarters. He said clearance from the headquarters was mandatory to take part in debates, interviews, and television and YouTube programmes.

It appears that the directive from the TVK leadership restricting media interaction was aimed at preventing inexperienced members or those not designated to speak to the media from “making gaffes” in view of the upcoming Assembly polls.
