Vignan University in Vadlamudi, Chebrolu mandal, has been sanctioned 20 new government-funded National Service Scheme units by the State NSS Cell under the Andhra Pradesh Higher Education Department, Vice-Chancellor K.V. Krishna Kishore said on Saturday.

He said the official orders were issued by State NSS Officer M. Sudhakar after a review of the university’s infrastructure, student strength, faculty support and preparedness for implementing NSS activities.

Prof. Krishna Kishore said the new units would provide more opportunities for students to participate in community service and social outreach programmes. He noted that NSS certification carries additional weightage in higher education admissions and employment opportunities.

He said NSS activities help students develop leadership qualities, discipline, teamwork and social responsibility. The university plans to expand programmes related to rural development, environmental protection, Swachh Bharat initiatives, health camps, blood donation drives, literacy campaigns and disaster management activities through the newly sanctioned units.

The Vice-Chancellor also said institutions had recently been advised to open dedicated zero-balance subsidiary accounts for transparent handling of NSS funds, in line with Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports guidelines.

Vignan Educational Institutions Chairman Lavu Rattaiah, Registrar P.M.V. Rao and faculty members welcomed the sanction and expressed hope that students would actively participate in service programmes.
