In an unprecedented move, ten officials, including two former Municipal Commissioners of the erstwhile Badangpet Municipal Corporation, have been placed under suspension on allegations of financial irregularities.

In a statement issued late on Wednesday night, the GHMC informed that a Vigilance inquiry has confirmed the allegations against the officials.

The suspended officials were the former Municipal Commissioners G. Raghu and P. Saraswathi, Deputy Executive Engineers Jyothi, Venkanna, A. Yadaiah, Assistant Executive Engineer P. Vinil Kumar Goud, Sanitary Inspector Y. Yadagiri, Manager/AMC G. Sridhar Reddy, Manager D. Nageshwar Rao, and Pre Audit Officer N. Venkat.

All these officials are now posted in various capacities across GHMC, Public Health, and Directorate of Town and Country Planning wings.

As per the details obtained, the officials, working in the Badangpet Municipal Corporation at the time of its merger with GHMC, took advantage of the transition phase and placed and approved bills worth ₹122 crore for works which did not happen, and which were halfway through. Several works were reportedly given on nomination basis beyond the Commissioner’s sanctioning powers.

Exorbitant amounts were cleared for seemingly inexpensive works, for which fake bills were reportedly submitted, as per the sources.
