Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani has sought urgent intervention from Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to address mounting traffic congestion and road safety concerns at the Chinnakakani junction near the Kaza tollgate on the Guntur-Vijayawada National Highway.

During a meeting held at Mr. Gadkari’s residence in New Delhi on Monday (May 11, 2026), Mr. Pemmasani submitted a representation highlighting persistent traffic bottlenecks at the junction where the Vijayawada West Bypass merges with NH-16. He urged the Ministry to consider constructing either a grade-separated interchange or a uni-directional flyover to streamline vehicular movement and enhance commuter safety.

The Minister explained that in the absence of a grade-separated interchange, vehicles heading towards Vijayawada are forced to navigate a narrow two-lane service road beneath the flyover and take U-turns, resulting in prolonged traffic problems and inconvenience to lakhs of commuters.

Pemmasani also flagged a rise in road accidents in the area and stressed the need for immediate corrective measures in the interest of public safety. According to an official statement, Gadkari responded positively and directed concerned officials to examine the issue and initiate necessary action.
