U.P. job aspirants to hold ‘Hunkar panchayat’ on August 25, demand transparent, time-bound recruitment

Seeking accountability, transparency, a time-bound recruitment drive, and the filling of vacant posts at the earliest by various recruitment commissions and the Uttar Pradesh Government, government job aspirants on Tuesday announced that they would hold a Student Panchayat on August 25. They have named it the Hunkar Panchayat, to which students from across the State have been invited for detailed deliberations.

“For years, millions of competitive students in Uttar Pradesh have been demanding transparency in recruitment exams, a timely recruitment process, filling of vacant posts and a fair opportunity. Problems such as waiting lists, paper leaks, exam irregularities, delayed results, unfilled positions and negligence in resolving complaints have impacted students’ futures,” said Pankaj Pandey, convenor of Sanyukt Pratiyogi Chhatra Hunkar Manch, a Prayagraj-based outfit of competitive government job aspirants.

“The pain of students is no longer limited to one exam or one recruitment. It’s time to raise this voice forcefully in front of the Government and all the major recruitment commissions in Uttar Pradesh — the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC), and the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC).”

“Strict action should be taken against paper leaks and corruption. The recruitment process should be transparent and accountable. There should be timely recruitment for vacant posts. Students should get their rights and fair opportunities. We are in touch with students and aspirants from across the state and have given a call for the ‘Hunkar Panchayat,’ a student panchayat on August 25 regarding these questions and demands.”

“This is not a voice against any individual, but a voice for improving the system and securing the future of students. We will raise our voice for justice, transparency and employment. The Panchayat will be held in Prayagraj or Lucknow. Students are being forced to protest for the declaration of results; this system needs an overhaul. Yesterday, after continuous protest, the result of the Village Panchayat Officer (VPO) exam was declared. We seek accountability on all fronts,” said Mr. Pandey.

Another aspirant, Vivek Singh, said delays in conducting recruitment examinations and irregularities in various state-level competitive examinations were a pressing issue in U.P. “Vacancies for primary and secondary teachers have not been advertised for over five years. Lakhs of aspirants are hopeless. We have raised concerns over irregularities, mismanagement at examination centres, lack of transparency and prolonged delays in the recruitment processes for various state-level competitive examinations, including VPO, Junior Assistant, Teachers and Lekhpal,” said Mr. Singh.

The Congress demanded a white paper on the time taken to complete recruitment tests for various government jobs. “UPSC, which is the most prestigious exam, takes less than a year to complete its three-stage recruitment process. U.P. commissions take over four years for a single exam. It is a criminal act of murdering young aspirants’ futures. We demand a white paper on the time taken to complete recruitment tests for various government jobs,” said Shahnawaz Alam, national secretary, Congress.
