A pile-up involving three KSRTC buses near Malavalli in Mandya district resulted in the death of two persons while scores of passengers were injured, on Sunday evening.

The accident took place on National Highway 948 near Bachanahalli, and the condition of 10 of the injured is said to be critical.

According to the police, the accident occurred when a KSRTC bus from Kollegal which was proceeding towards Bengaluru lost control after a tyre burst and collided with another bus coming from the opposite direction. A third bus on the same stretch of road then rammed into the pile-up.

The local people immediately alerted the police and the injured were shifted to the taluk hospital. Those with severe injuries were taken to Mysuru and Mandya. The impact of the collision was such that the front portion of the vehicles was reduced to a mass of mangled metal.
