70-year-old man dies after car catches fire in Bagepalli

A 70-year-old cab driver was burnt alive after the car he was travelling in suddenly caught fire near Bagepalli in Chikkaballapur district on Monday (March 9, 2026).

The deceased has been identified as Uday Kumar (70), a resident of Penumale village. According to police, the incident occurred when he was travelling in his car near Achepalli village in Bagepalli taluk.

Police said the vehicle suddenly caught fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Within minutes, the flames engulfed the entire car, leaving the driver trapped inside.

Local residents rushed to the spot and tried to douse the fire and rescue him, but were unable to save the victim as the blaze spread rapidly. Uday Kumar was burnt alive inside the vehicle.

The car was completely gutted in the incident.

Police from Bagepalli Police Station visited the spot, conducted an inspection and registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
