K. Sai Chetana Reddy (19), a native of Jammalamadugu in Kadapa district, was swept away in the waters of the Brahmaputra river in Assam on Saturday.

Sai Chetana had joined the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Guwahati in 2024 and was pursuing third year B.Tech (Electronics & Communications).

According to her father K. Sainath Reddy, who works as the tahsildar of Jammalamadugu mandal, “My daughter, along with three other friends, had visited the river located close to her campus to watch it in spate. While two of her friends remained on the banks, Sai Chetana and another friend entered into the water. They lost their balance and slipped. While the other girl was rescued safely, Sai Chetana was swept away in the gushing water.”

Sai Chetana’s body was later retrieved from the river. Mr. Sainath Reddy rushed to Guwahati to receive her body.
