At least two persons died and three injured on Thursday (November 6, 2025) after a suburban train near the Sandhurst railway station in Maharashtra’s Mumbai hit them, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials said.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m., when four passengers were hit by local train near the pole between Sandhurst Road Railway Station and CSMT station. Following the incident the services on the central railway line was disturbed. All four injured were sent to J J Hospital.

The five people brought to hospital are identified as Yafiza Chogale (62) Helly Mohmaya (19), Kaif Choghale (22), Khushbu Mohamaya(45) and the fifth person is yet to be identified.

Before the accident, earlier on Thursday unions representing Central Railway’s employees stopped suburban local train operations at the busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus for nearly an hour in evening to oppose the FIR against engineers in the Mumbra accident case which occurred on June 9, killing four people.

Due to the protest, the passengers were stranded on the CSMT station for an hour. According to railway officials, the services were disrupted between 5.50 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. and only resume thereafter. The first train started from the CSMT after the protest hit the people crossing the tracks.

“The speed of the train is fast, the reaction time to stop immediately or to stop in dark is not possible. We have been constantly urging not to walk on railway tracks,” said spokesperson of Central Railway, Swapnil Nila.

When asked whether the accident was the collateral damage of the protest held earlier, Mr. Nila dodged the question, saying it can be confirmed only after probing the accident.
