The Tripura police have arrested a female online activist based on complaints about her “abusive” rhetoric against the State government and the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).

The police on Monday (October 27, 2025) produced her in court and sought her remand for seven days.

Madhavi Biswas, a resident of Pratapgarh in Agartala, has spoken about alleged corruption in the State government and lack of civic amenities.

During her live appearances, she directly criticised the Chief Minister, Ministers and the top brass of the AMC, including the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor.

AMC Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta was first to lodge a police complaint against Ms. Biswas almost a month ago.

This was followed by a number of complaints registered in different police stations.

In her last appearance recently, she criticised the State government for not arresting real culprits connected with the huge drug shipment seized from two train wagons at the Jirania railway station here. Complainants, however, claimed she had a deliberate tendency to make false allegations against the leaders and abuse them in filthy language.

They alleged the accused was politically motivated to defame the BJP-led state government and the institutions.
